The Fleet Air Arm Museum is located 7 mile north of Yeovil, and 40 miles south of Bristol, on RNAS Yeovilton. The museum has a variety of exhibits including World War I and II, The Falklands conflict, a mock up of the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal as it would have appeared in the 1970's with various planes on the deck and a simulated helicopter ride, as well as various exhibits on specific planes that have played a role in the Fleet Air Arm's history. The Fleet Air Arm Museum in houses Europe's largest collection of naval aircraft. Occupying four enormous hangars and a climate controlled storage hangar, the museum has over ninety aircraft from the remains of the very first aircraft to have taken part in naval battle (the Short 184 in 1916) to Harriers, Buccaneers and a Phantom strike fighter, and if you have wondered what a nuclear bomb looks like, visitors will find one of those too.

Experience what life is like on the busy flight deck of HMS Ark Royal. Arrive onto the flight deck from a simulated flight in a wessex helicopter. Visitors will be among ten aircraft, and at either end of the flight deck enormous projection screens show a dramatic take off and landing sequence, which gives the feeling of really being at sea.

In addition to the naval aircraft, the Fleet Air Arm museum has the first British built Concorde. Visitors can go on board and marvel at the 1960's technology, which made this aircraft fly at more than twice the speed of sound.

The museum is situated alongside RNAS Yeovilton - Europe's largest Naval Air Station, where, dependant upon operational demands visitors may see naval aircraft going through their rigorous training procedures.


There is also the 'Leading Edge' hall containing the second Concorde prototype and other important milestones in the British aerospace industry since WWII.

The museum also carries out various restoration projects; they are currently working on Corsair KD 431.



There's a shop, restaurant and children's adventure play area. In fact, the museum is so large that four hours is required to visit.
